Shuttle Express: The "Natural" Way to Get to the Airport

Shuttle Express began operation of two natural gas vans in their shared-ride door to door airport service in 2002. The company now operates 27 natural gas vans throughout the region. According to the company, plans are in the works to change the entire fleet of passenger vans from gasoline to compressed natural gas (CNG).

Shuttle Express' efforts are in conjunction with the Port of Seattle's alternative fuels program, in which the Port is working with airport tenants and operators to expand the use of alternative fuel vehicles throughout the airport environment. In August of 2003, Shuttle Express signed a contract with the Port of Seattle requiring that 70% of trips be made using natural gas vehicles.

The Puget Sound Clean Cities Coalition was instrumental in helping the Port obtain a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to cover a portion of the incremental cost of purchasing 43 dedicated natural gas vans. These funds will be provided to private companies operating ground transportation services at Sea-Tac Airport.  Shuttle Express applied for and was awarded a portion of these funds to help offset the cost of purchasing their new natural gas vans.

So the next time you travel, consider taking Shuttle Express and support the company's efforts to move to clean fuels.  Visit their website or call 425.981.7000  WA Toll Free: 800.487.7433
